Málaga discharges water to prevent flooding
Due to intense rainfall, the La Concepción, Conde del Guadalhorce and Casasola reservoirs together discharged 50 hectometres of water, equal to Málaga's annual consumption. This prevents them from exceeding their maximum capacity. Nevertheless, Casasola caused flooding in Campanillas and Cártama.
The government is working on improvements, such as additional drains and a new pipe. It is also investigating how much sediment is in the reservoirs.
Thanks to the rain, water reserves have increased to 51% of capacity, but authorities continue to call for economical use of water.

Spain strengthens armed forces amid European defence trends
Spain wants to strengthen its armed forces of nearly 150,000 soldiers, announcing in February 2025 4,450 new positions for the army, navy and aerospace forces. By 2035, the army should grow by 20,000 professionals, partly due to a loss of 13,300 soldiers over the past 15 years and increasing international commitments.
By comparison, France has 270,000 active soldiers and 63,700 reservists, Italy 163,000 active soldiers and 18,300 reservists. Poland has increased its armed forces to 206,000 soldiers and 40,000 reservists, with plans to train an additional 150,000 reservists by 2039.
Despite these efforts, Spain's defence budget as a percentage of GDP has fallen from 2.9% in 1985 to 1.2% in 2019. The goal is to increase this to 2% by 2029, while NATO recommends a defence spending of 3.5%. Europe lags behind world powers such as the US, Russia and China and needs to invest in modernisation to strengthen its strategic position.

How much money should you have to buy a property in Spain?
When buying a property in Spain, as a non-resident you can finance a maximum of 70% of the assessed value.
As you should know, the appraisal value is usually slightly lower than the selling price.
